Vince Cable MP takes action on CO2 shortage

As a result of More United's campaign, Liberal Democrat Leader Vince Cable has written to the Business Secretary urging him to intervene urgently on the CO2 shortage.

Vince says

Thank you to More United's supporters for acting on this issue. As a former Liberal Democrat Secretary of State for Business myself, I know just how transformative it can be when a Minister convenes industry actors and gets them to share the information they need.

Letter reads: "I write as former Secretary of State for Business to seek your urgent intervention in the growing crisis in the food and drink industry, caused by a shortage of CO2 gas. This is not only having a commercial effect but a very worrying impact on animal welfare. All industry players need information now on how long the current CO2 shortage is going to last, yet none is forthcoming from the CO2 manufacturers while their crucial machines are offline for maintenance. I therefore ask that you intervene urgently to convene the big CO2 manufacturers to demand both that the ycoordinate to minimise disruption, and that they provide information to Britain's businesses on the likely length of the shortage, so contingency plans can be made. I look forward to hearing from you."
