Different families, same love - Make LGBT inclusive teaching mandatory
More United members are marking LGBT History Month by asking MPs to attend a debate in Parliament asking that all children and young people are taught about LGBT families in schools
It’s not nice to feel excluded or left out, is it? Especially when you’re growing up.
That’s why More United members are marking LGBT history month by asking their MPs to attend a debate next week in Parliament asking that all children and young people are taught that different families are built on the same love.

New government guidance is being introduced, enabling schools to deliver inclusive Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) designed to ensure all young people have the information they need to have safe, healthy relationships and reach their full potential.
However, this guidance does not make it clear enough that schools should educate young people about LGBT families/identities. This can lead to LGBT pupils or pupils with LGBT family members feeling excluded.
Teaching children and young people about the full range of human relationships is an important chance to tackle harmful stereotypes surrounding same-sex relationships and gender identity.
Please write to your MP now and ask them to make the case for inclusive RSE in all schools.

LGBT history month is an important opportunity to celebrate the progress the UK has made on delivering equal rights but it should also be a chance to ensure that everyone is included in our society.
As a constituent, I am joining thousands of members of More United to ask you to attend the debate being held on Monday 25 February at 1620 in Westminster Hall and speak in favour of inclusive Relationships and Sex Education in all schools.
The charity Stonewall has found that two in five lesbian, gay, bi and trans pupils never learn anything about LGBT issues at school. This is a failure of our curriculum which can devastate pupils who feel their identity and relationships are not what society expects.
Thankfully new government guidance is being introduced to enable schools to deliver inclusive Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) designed to ensure all young people have the information they need to have safe, healthy relationships and reach their full potential.
However, this guidance does not make it clear enough that schools must teach children and young people about LGBT families and identities. LGBT pupils or pupils with LGBT family members may continue to receive an education that fails to recognise LGBT families. That’s why we think this guidance should be strengthened to ensure primary school children are taught about different families.
LGBT history month is a chance to celebrate progress and remember those who made a historical contribution to equal rights in the UK, but we still have work to do to ensure everybody in the UK has the chance to reach their full potential, no matter who they are.
